For ten years, Small Business Saturday has drawn people away from the shopping malls and big box retailers to the doorsteps of small, mom and pop businesses – the types of businesses who line Main Street and make an indelible impression upon our lives. Pierce County residents are fortunate to have many small business owners who are actively involved in our community, in addition to creating special places to shop and dine. Small Business Saturday is an opportunity for community members to shop small, and support these businesses.

The Impact of Your Shopping Dollars

In addition to supporting small business owners, there are economic reasons to shop small - reasons that benefit all of us.

Shopping locally has a significant impact on the economic vitality of our community. In addition to supporting business owners and their families, shopping local can create additional jobs.

  • Every dollar spent at a small business in the United States, contributes 67 cents to the local economy.
  • Each dollar spent at a small business, creates an additional 50 cents in local business activity.
  • Every ten jobs at a small business, supports an additional seven jobs within the community.

By shopping small, you can help to create jobs in our community, to strengthen our economy and to invest in making Pierce County an even better place to live. It sounds simple, but buy purchasing things from local businesses, instead of online or from a big retailer, you really can make a difference!

  • Businesses Are Offering Contest and Promotions to Make Shopping Small Even More Fun
  • Many local businesses are offering contests and special promotions to make shopping small even more enticing. We recommend visiting the Facebook page of your favorite shops to see what their promotions are.

For example, in Ellsworth, businesses like East End Gifts are celebrating Small Business Saturday by offering giveaways. On their Facebook page, they advertise, “We will be picking 3 WINNERS for gift certificates to East End Gifts, Brush Strokes and Country Fit! Please consider adding us to your plans on Small Business Saturday to support all of these great businesses. To be entered into the contest, you have to SHARE this post then COMMENT below with your favorite emoji or gif. Good Luck, we will pick the winners on Small Biz Sat, November 30th.”
