ELMWOOD
Elmwood is a community of 841 people, nestled in
the beautiful wooded rolling hills in eastern Pierce County, Wisconsin. These hills, left
by age old glaciers, provide spectacular beauty, especially in late September and early
October when the leaves change to colors of reds and golds. This Village is located 15
miles south of I-94. Many local residents are employed locally in agricultural, service,
and retail industries. Elmwood has quite a reputation of being the UFO capital.*

Transportation
State highways 72 and 128 intersect at Elmwood,
while I-94 lies only 15 miles north (Exit 28). Several common carriers provide daily
service with a UPS hub located at Baldwin, 23 miles northwest. Regularly scheduled air
passenger service is available at Eau Claire or the Twin Cities. Bus service is available
in Menomonie (20 minutes.)
Utilities
Xcel Energy provides Elmwood with electricity. The
Village of Elmwood's water supply and sewage treatment facilities are being expanded to
provide for the city's future needs. Wisconsin Gas Company supplies natural gas to the
Village with telephone service provided by GTE. Elmwood receives cable television
programming through DeMarce TV and Cable Systems, Inc.
Education and Training
Elmwood residents and businesses have excellent
access to job training resources with technical instruction available at Chippewa Valley
Technical College campuses in Menomonie, 19 miles east and River Falls, 28 miles west.
Four other excellent technical schools are within a 60-mile radius. University of
Wisconsin campuses at River Falls, and Menomonie, along with the University of Minnesota
and other Twin Cities colleges are just a short drive from Elmwood, providing world-class
comprehensive programming. The West Central Wisconsin Private Industry Council and the
Wisconsin Job Service provide coordinated training and development services from Job
Centers in Menomonie and Ellsworth. Students in the Elmwood School District consistently
score above national averages in standardized tests, and a progressive Board of Education
works with local residents to provide community-wide access to facilities and programs.
Health and Medical Facilities
The Village hosts the Red Cedar Clinic-Mayo Health System, a chiropractic center, and
the Pierce County Health Service. Hospital service and 24-hour emergency medical services
are provided in Menomonie (19 miles). Heritage of Elmwood provides high quality skilled
nursing and assisted living residential care.
Recreation
Elmwood is located near many outstanding recreational facilities and picturesque
natural settings. Elmwood's Eau Galle River is one of the many great trout streams in the
region, and several golf courses are located nearby. The Red Cedar Trail to the east
provides all-season hiking, biking and cross country ski pathways. Eau Galle Recreation
Area, 7 miles north, offers excellent camping, fishing and hiking facilities. 220 miles of
snowmobile trails in Pierce County offer a popular winter recreation option. Elmwood is
convenient to many natural and scenic recreation areas including Nugget Lake County Park,
the Plum, Eau Galle, Rush, St. Croix, and Mississippi Rivers; Lake Pepin; and several
state parks as well as our own lovely Butternut Park located within the village limits.
Golf, swimming, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, biking trails, boating, hunting, and
fishing are readily available seasonally.

Community Features
Elmwood has both a local library and the Pierce County Library Service. Regional
newspapers are delivered daily and the Elmwood Argus is published weekly. Active service
clubs and churches provide a variety of community and social opportunities.
