ELLSWORTH
Welcome to the Village of Ellsworth!

Ellsworth has a population of 2,909 people and is proud to be the County Seat for Pierce County. Ellsworth is the focal point of education, agriculture and recreation in Western Wisconsin. Ellsworth community schools completed construction of a new middle school in 1996. The Village of Ellsworth is a community where small town friendliness, along with civic minded citizens and a highly skilled work force, make Ellsworth a great place to visit and a community one is proud to be a part of. You are invited to take part in the many activities Ellsworth has to offer. Some of those activities are: Sno-Fest, Polkafest, 4th of July Celebration and Cheese Curd Days. Check out one of our beautiful parks, Summit Hill and East End. Summit Hill Park has tennis courts, softball and playground equipment, East End Park has picnic shelters and playground equipment. Again, welcome to Ellsworth and Pierce County in beautiful Western Wisconsin.

Sincerely, Village of Ellsworth Gerald DeWolfe, President

Transportation

Three major highways, State Highway 65 and US Highways 10 and 63, intersect at Ellsworth. Interstate 94 is only 19 nonstop miles north and the River Falls bypass provides nonstop access to the Twin Cities metro area. Several interstate and local trucking firms serve the region. International air service is available 50 minutes west at the Minneapolis/St.Paul International Airport, and local service is available at the Red Wing Airport just south of Ellsworth. Burlington Northern daily rail service is available 10 miles south at Hager City.

Utilities
The Pierce-Pepin Electric Cooperative and Xcel Energy provide Ellsworth with electricity at rates that are among the lowest in the country. The municipal water and sewer systems have sufficient capacity to meet the Village's growth projections well into the future. Wisconsin Gas Company supplies natural gas with phone service provided by Ameritech.

Education and Training
The Ellsworth School District is one of the geographically largest districts in the state. With a K-12 enrollment of 1,900, school busses travel 2,500 miles per day in the 250 square miles that compromise the district. While a high school, middle school and 1 elementary school lie within the village limits, 3 other elementary schools are strategically situated in the outlying areas in the district to better serve the rural population. To further meet the needs of the district, a 600 student middle school opened in August of 1996. The St. Francis Catholic School, also located in the village, affords a choice to those enrolling elementary students in an educational facility. The 1:14 teacher/student ratio speaks for itself as the district boasts a high school graduation rate in excess of that for the state of Wisconsin. The district has a comprehensive special education program which meets the needs of the gifted and talented, the physically and mentally challenged, and those identified as potential drop-outs. Parental involvement is strongly encouraged on all levels with booster clubs, volunteers, and parent organizations being active in many of the schools. Realizing that education should not be all work and no play, extra-curricular activities abound. School clubs, societies, musical groups and athletic competitions receive the support of the general public as do the many community youth and adult programs and organizations active within the district.

Health and Medical Facilities
Hospital service and 24-hour emergency medical services are provided at the River Falls Area Hospital and St. John's Regional Health Care Center in Red Wing, both within 15 miles from Ellsworth. Air ambulance service from Ellsworth is 12 minutes away from state-of-the-art medical facilities in Rochester and the Twin Cities. Local medical service choices are provided by the interstate Medical Clinic and the River Falls Medical Clinic. Ellsworth's Care Center provides skilled residential care alternatives.

Recreation
Whether wanting to participate in one of the many organized activities sponsored by the area civic groups or seeking entertainment on one's own, Ellsworth offers year around fun for the entire family. Two outdoor skating rinks, over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails centered in Ellsworth, and acreage available for cross-country skiing cause outdoorsmen to welcome the winter with open arms. 6 tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, nearby 8-lane bowling alley, a shooting rage and an archery range along with a bevy of ball diamonds and courts beckon the competitive while area trout streams and wooded lands lure anglers and huntsmen alike. Home of the ever-popular Ellsworth Polka Fest, Beldenville Old Car Show, and Pierce County Fair, the shaded Pierce County Fairgrounds is also a favorite spot for walks and picnics. Two other parks, Summit Hill and East End, as well as the Cairns Woods Walking Trail provide a place for both leisurely strolls and high energy workouts. Youth recreational activities abound in the form of athletic leagues, Scouting and 4-H programs. Dart and billiards leagues, sportsmen clubs and ball leagues provide both educational and entertainment possibilities for adult participants. The Community Education Program offers aerobics, exercise, recreational, social, cultural, and health opportunities. A nearby dance studio sets bodies moving to the music in organized classes for students of all ages. No matter if here during our wonderful winters or sensational summers, Ellsworth visitors and residents are sure to find a way to play and a reason to stay.
